Meet Your Farmers

Welcome from the Choudoir family: Mike, Angie, Josie, Maggie and Warren. Both Mike & Angie grew up involved in the dairy industry and knew when they got married that they wanted to raise animals. In 2013, they bought their first pair of Scottish Highland heifers. For the next few years, they learned a lot about working with Highlands and fell in love with them. In 2020, they purchased a small fold and Highland Prairie Farms was born.

Bred Cow for Sale (Unregistered)

Josie (DOB 4/16/21) is pregnant with her second calf and due in late March/early April. She is bred to our herd sire John Yuma pictured below. She calved last year with a bull calf who is available for viewing. She is an easy keeper and would be a great addition to any fold. Reach out for more information.

FAQs

Answers to some common questions we get asked

What products do you currently offer?

We offer Highland cattle, Highland beef, semen, and Katahdin sheep.

Do you sell meat?

We currently do not have any meat available but plan to have both beef and lamb available in the future.

Can I visit your farm?

We do not offer farm visits at this time other than for those planning to purchase livestock.

Are your animals grass-fed and/or organic?

Yes and no. Our animals are majority grass-fed and live on pasture. We do feed some grain as needed. Our products are not organic.

Are your cattle registered?

Yes, the majority of our fold is registered with the American Highland Cattle Association.

Are your sheep registered?

No, our sheep are not registered Katahdin. We started our flock with sheep that were crosses of hair sheep breeds with Katahdin as the majority breed. We have started exclusively using registered Katahdin rams and plan to work on transitioning to a fully registered flock in the future.
